Dear Rick,

I'm Ari Gold, a filmmaker with a movie I believe speaks to your lifelong devotion to artists finding their voice. Brother Verses Brother, which we intend to release in February, is a one-shot musical film made according to the Live Cinema precepts of EP Francis Ford Coppola — 90 minutes of real-time improvisation through the streets of San Francisco. It stars my family: my twin brother Ethan and our 99-year-old father, Beat-era novelist Herbert Gold, in his final performance before his death.

The story is about codependent twin musicians hunting the city for love, a song, and their dying father. It’s a movie about grief, brotherhood, and the healing power of music — made the way you argue art should be made: live and unguarded.
